about us

Our Story

SAPNET is a network of women and women’s organizations working to ensure sustainable use of the natural environment and resources. Our planet has provided us with an abundance of natural resources. But we have not utilized them responsibly and currently consume far beyond what our planet can provide. We must learn how to use and produce in sustainable ways that will reverse the harm that we have inflicted on the planet.

To ensure responsible consumption and production, we all have to take action. We can ensure sustainable consumption and production together. In Uganda, consumption and production is the driving force of the economy. The economy rests on the use of the natural environment and resources in a way that continues to have destructive impacts on the planet. However, economic and social progress over the past years has been accompanied by environmental degradation that is endangering the very systems on which our future development and the very survival depends.

Mission of SAPNET

To empower women and ensure sustainable use of the natural environment and resources

Vision of SAPNET

Ensuring Responsible Consumption and production patterns and empower women to sustain their livelihoods and those of current and future generations.

SAPNET objectives are;

  • 1. To empower women as a solution to environmental sustainability and food security
  • 2. To Support and empower rural women to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and develop their capacities and resilience to respond to climate change and other challenges
  • 3. To support women and ensure sustainable consumption and production practices necessarily entails to respect the biophysical boundaries of the planet and to reduce current consumption rates in order to fit with the biophysical capacity to produce ecosystem services and benefits.
  • 4. To increase the number of women in a circular economy. A Circular economy is one of the current sustainable economic models, in which products and materials are designed in such a way that they can be reused, remanufactured, recycled or recovered and thus maintained in the economy for as long as possible, along with the resources of which they are made, and the generation of waste, especially hazardous waste, is avoided or minimized, and greenhouse gas emissions are prevented or reduced.
